Welcome to the Scout Alpha. Scout is still very much a work in progress. My hope in allowing friends and friendlies access to it now, is to accelerate our feedback loops and make Scout better faster.
To that end, I would ask you to Please let us know the ways in which Scout is good and bad for your use case. You can do that with the live chat tool or with the “Add Feedback” link on each task.
What Is Scout & How Does It Work?
- Scout is an AI Personal Assistant that works with your favourite tools. You can give Scout access to your accounts (think gmail, slack etc), and then Scout can do things within those accounts.
- Right now, we’re focused on being the most reliable way to let AI connect to your tools and execute simple tasks when you already know what you want. We’re not yet focused on helping you decide what you want.
- You can give Scout access to your accounts under the “Connect Accounts” tab. This will open your Cloud Browser. To connect a new account, simply open a new tab, navigate to the service, and sign in to it as you normally would. When you’re finished, click “Save & Close”.
- Once you've signed in to an account in your Cloud Browser, Scout will be able to use it to carry out tasks on your behalf.
A note on Recipes
- Scout is not yet smart enough to finish all tasks flawlessly, and often needs guidance. To do this, we use Recipes.
- Recipes are like additional instructions you can attach to a task to increase the likelihood of it working. You can create your own recipes or you choose from our pre existing library of recipes.
Known Issues
- Speed: Scout is currently slower than we would like it to be. This is because each step requires sending a large payload to an AI model, and waiting for a response, which can take 5 to 10 seconds per step.
- Tools with short-lived sessions: Some tools (E.g. banks) will sign you out automatically after a period of time. This means Scout won’t be able to access them easily and will need additional actions from you to proceed.
- Reliance On Recipes: Currently Scout relies heavily on recipes for a variety of tasks. As the underlying models get better, so too will Scout. At some point we would hope to be able to remove our reliance on recipes entirely.
